About Me
about kari...
Hi there! I’m Kari. I started supporting families as a postpartum doula in July 2013. I am a DONA certified postpartum doula, trained in 2013 and certified in 2015 through the Simkin Center at Bastyr University in San Diego, CA. I attended Newborn Care Specialist Training in August 2017. I also completed Postpartum Support International’s Perinatal Mood Disorders: Components of Care training in 2020.
My mom and mother-in-law are my inspiration for my doula journey. They are amazing! The term "doula" is derived from a Greek word meaning "mother the mother" and after the birth of both of our boys, my mother and mother-in-law were my doulas. They helped me find my confidence as a new mother, helped me learn to trust my instincts, and how to care for my growing family. They served as my postpartum doula team without even realizing it.
I am the proud wife of an Army Officer, mother to two boys and one dog. I am a Veteran and Soldier in the Army Reserve. I am originally from San Jose, CA. I am a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point where I studied Engineering Psychology and Civil Engineering and have earned masters degrees in Engineering Management and National Security and Resource Strategy. During my eight years on active duty, I served in North Carolina, Missouri, Kentucky, Afghanistan, and Iraq. In our spare time, we enjoy camping, hiking, supporting out boys in their activities, Scouts, paleo-ish cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
I have professional experience supporting a wide-range of families. I have experience with twins, breastfeeding, bottle feeding (exclusive pumping or formula), co-sleeping, first-, second-, and third-time parents, plus much more.
I believe that every baby, every family is unique and has different support requirements and needs. I believe that the "fourth trimester" is as critical as any prenatal trimester and I'm excited you're here!
I look forward to meeting and supporting your whole family during this part of your journey.
